Dress the Body You Have Now

Dress The Body You Have | Phenomenal Image

You vowed to lose those extra pounds that crept up on you over the years. You punish yourself by swearing that you will not buy anything new until you lose the weight. You join weight control groups and purchase enough exercise videos and equipment to open up a mini gym.

You get started and are really doing well and then somehow, someway, you lose your enthusiasm or you feel guilty for “cheating” because you ordered the fudge brownie sundae with extra nuts. You’re not happy with the way you look, so you figure it would be best to cover all of you with as much fabric you can muster; somehow thinking that will make you look smaller.

But it seems to backfire because now instead of feeling better, you feel worse. You want to get off this roller coaster, but you don’t know how or where to start. How do I know, you ask? I know, because I’ve been there…

I gained weight over the years and it seemed like I just opened my eyes and it was there. I avoided shopping because I was embarrassed to purchase items in the larger size because in my mind I was still the smaller woman I was in my 20s. So I would purchase items that I knew didn’t fit; hanging in my closet because I thought that by doing that, it would jump-start my desire to lose weight.

Well, that didn’t work and I began to feel even worse.

I finally decided that even though I’m not the size nor weight I wanted to be, I love me and I am doing myself a disservice by not treating myself with enough respect to become the best I can become at my current size.  Even though I am not where I want to be,  it is my obligation to God, myself and family to be the best me I can be one moment at a time.

Nancy Gettridge | Phenomenal ImageI made a decision to live for the now and with a plan to become better (wiser, stronger, loving, etc.) each day that I have breath. My journey is ongoing, and I have learned many lessons along the way. I am confident in my skin and love who I am now.  I’m only human.   I will have ups and downs but I not stop taking care of myself.  I will look my best, take care of my health, work and play hard while having fun in the process.

Which leads me to this question for you.  Are you ready to commit to become a better you by dressing well the body you have now?

I want to be clear that there is nothing wrong with losing weight.  There is a health epidemic and we must take care ourselves by making better food choices and become honest about the way we view food.  We also need to understand that we have to start where we are.  Punishing ourselves wearing clothing that does not flatter  our appearance will only contribute to damaging our self-esteem and confidence.

You’ll only end up focusing on your flaws.   Whether that is feeling like you look awkward or can anyone see the gap in your shirt.  Or you may feel uncomfortable because you are stuffing your size 16 frame into the size 10 blouse you wore a couple of years ago. By wearing clothes that flatter you, you will be able to focus on what you do best; whether that is selling, administering, marketing, or writing.
