Are you clear with what is non-negotiable in your career?
Designing your career with intention means knowing your non-negotiables—those things you’re simply not willing to compromise on.
Sure, the perfect company or job may not exist, but understanding your non-negotiables brings you closer to finding what truly makes you thrive in your career.
So, how do you figure out what’s non-negotiable for you?
First, get clear on what you need and what would be nice to have. For example, if becoming a senior leader is your goal, then opportunities for advancement are non-negotiable. Maybe flexible work hours are a must for your work-life balance.
Write down your non-negotiables. This list becomes your guide, helping you determine if an opportunity aligns with what you truly want.
Read your list out loud. Speaking your non-negotiables helps solidify them in your mind, making them a natural part of your decision-making process.
Review your list periodically. As you grow and gain new experiences, your perspective may change. What’s important now may shift in the future. Update your list to reflect those changes.
Take control of your career by clearly defining the standards you won’t negotiate.
